DIY Unicorn Horns You Can Eat!

Planning a themed birthday party? Just like getting creative when you entertain? If you’re like us, you can’t get over all things unicorn. This trend isn’t going anywhere, and we’re fine with that – the only thing better than dessert is dessert dressed up as a sparkly magical creature. Whether for a girl’s birthday party or a nostalgic girls’ night in, edible DIY unicorn horns make the perfect party favor. Make them to match other decorations like unicorn headbands or party hats, to top cakes or cupcakes, or to eat off sticks (or all three!).

If you’re ready to infuse your unicorn-themed party with some DIY flavor, you’re in the right place. Check out three recipes for edible DIY unicorn horns below.

Three Recipes for Edible Unicorn Horns

1. DIY Unicorn Horns

Seasoned DIYers will love this recipe for edible DIY unicorn horns from Some of This and That. This is a great one for kids or anyone who likes to get their hands dirty in the kitchen, yet it’s simple to prepare for and easy to make. Check out the ingredients and summary below.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 Package Jell-O for each color desired
  • 1/4 Cup Clear Soda (e.g., Sprite, 7UP)
  • 5-6 Cups Powdered Sugar

Now for the fun part. You’ll dissolve the Jell-O in the soda, then blend in powdered sugar to make colored “dough.” Finally, you’ll swirl the dough into unicorn horns and let them dry. To make dough in different colors (a must for the pretty, colorful swirl effect!), simply buy a Jell-O packet in a different flavor for each color and repeat the recipe above for each one.

Note: The unicorn horns will need to dry overnight, so it’s best to make them the day before your party.

  • Rainbow sprinkles of choice

3. Fondant Unicorn Horn Toppers

We get it – sometimes you don’t have time to make a magical artifact from scratch. That’s when these super easy fondant unicorn horn toppers are a lifesaver. Just be ready to muster up your inner sculptor as you craft the little fondant unicorn ears by hand.

Of course, you’ll need to purchase the white fondant and gold edible paint ahead of time, but assembly is pretty much as easy as rolling and twisting the fondant “dough.” Don’t feel limited to the gold color, either – you can use silver or any color you wish (sparkles are a plus). Grab some sprinkle hearts and stars, colored frosting, and your favorite cupcake recipe and let the fun begin.
